Conditional Release Program (CONREP)
Gateways Hospital administers the Conditional Release Program (CONREP) for Los Angeles and San Diego Counties, bridging the gap between the judicial system and community reintegration through evidence-based, compassionate mental health care and supervision. As a leader in forensic mental health since the 1980s, Gateways CONREP’s interdisciplinary team offers individualized care that fosters stability, personal growth, and successful reentry into the community.
The forensics program at Gateways supports individuals committed under various forensic statutes by providing comprehensive treatment and supervision that prioritizes public safety while championing client recovery.
CONREP Programs Managed by Gateways
Los Angeles County: Supporting up to 110 clients in the community and conducting biannual evaluations for 600 patients in the California Department of State Hospital’s statewide system of care.
San Diego County: Managing up to 23 clients in the community while evaluating 250 patients within the California Department of State Hospital’s statewide system of care.
Satellite Statewide Transitional Residential Program (STRP): Providing 35 beds (11 female, 24 male) and 24/7 residential care, which offers the highest level of support and structure in an outpatient setting within the statewide CONREP system of care.

- Occupational Therapy: Developing essential life skills for community integration and independence.
- Random Urinalyses: Promoting safety and accountability.
- Financial Assistance: Ensuring clients’ financial needs are met through the Department of State Hospital’s Life Support Funds.
- Forensic Evaluations: Supporting legal processes with comprehensive risk assessments and legal opinions addressing a variety of statutes.
- Psychometric Assessments: Collaboration with the California Forensic Assessment Project for comprehensive testing and in-house psychometric testing to address various diagnostic questions.
- Crisis Intervention: 24/7 availability to address emerging concerns through a variety of interventions.
